Back to Hotlanta!

Yesterday I made another run to Atlanta to deliver 5 kitties to Furkids so they could join a large transport destined for Connecticut and New York.

These transports are organized by the Georgia Transport Allies who coordinate furry passengers from high kill and over-crowded shelters all over the state and get them to northern rescues where they are often adopted out within DAYS! Yes, D-A-Y-S. THAT is the beauty of these transporting efforts. Animals that would wait for weeks, months, (sometimes years) in shelters and rescues in the south are snapped up like candy in the northern communities they are sent to.

On yesterday's trip two of my passengers, Jimmy and Mango, were long-timers with Tabby Tales Rescue (much like Maddie on our NH transport).
Jimmy and Mango settled in for the ride to Atlanta.

Again, it was a tough goodbye for the boys' fosters, but the hope of a fast, happy, forever home made it a bit easier to bear. My other 3 passengers came from the community-captured with help from Islands Feral Cat Project-a local group that helps people trap, neuter (or spay), vaccinate, and return (=TNVR) free roaming cats. These kittens are young enough to be socialized into loving lap cats and huggable house pets.
Waiting to be loaded up for the long ride!

It was fascinating to observe the coordination and organization involved in pulling together a transport like this one. A lot of moving parts! I left to return to Savannah feeling inspired. I can totally do this!

The transport: Savannah, GA > Atlanta, GA > Savannah, GA
The mileage: 543
The passengers: 5 cats and kittens
The destinations: northern rescues
