- Identifying and networking animals in your care that are eligible for transport.
- Helping to ensure those animals are properly vetted prior to transport and compiling all appropriate paperwork (health certificates, vaccination records).
- Coordinating transport of those animals to receiving shelters and/or rescues that agree to intake.
- Ensuring every animal travels in a secure, well-ventilated crate or carrier and that each animals' basic needs (food, water, bathroom, love) are met for the duration of the trip. (See "WE RUN A TIGHT SHIP" for more details.)
Are you a transport coordinator with an established transport or relay transport that is failing over not being able to secure enough drivers? Anchors Aweigh Animal Transport can take on multiple legs (or perhaps the entire transport) in order to ensure the animals get to their destination(s) when planned. We know that time can be of the essence and some animals don't have the luxury of waiting for the next transport. (See coverage map on this page to determine if we serve the area(s) you need.)
Are you a person who networks "last chance"/"death row" animals? Anchors Aweigh would love to connect with you and the organization(s) you work with to see if a transport program could be a potential option to get more animals out of high kill/high risk situations and into low or no kill organizations or forever homes.
Throw us your message in a bottle to inquire!
Anchors Aweigh Animal Transport operates as a volunteer service for the shelters and rescues needing animals transported. Sending organizations will cover (or reimburse) the cost of the rental vehicle and any hotel stays (including taxes and fees). Understanding that these organizations have very limited budgets, AAAT is always willing to consider alternative reimbursements (like a per mile rate or gas money). We are also always happy to cross-promote any fundraising efforts set up by organizations in order to cover the costs associated with our transports.
DISCLAIMER: Anchors Aweigh Animal Transport takes photos of the transport process and the animals under our temporary care. If a sending or receiving entity does not wish for these photos to be used online, in promotional materials, or elsewhere at the discretion of Anchors Aweigh Animal Transport, that entity must specify in writing that that is the case.
